Story of an Award-Winning Remodel

We are honored to announce that Gridley Company has been announced Regional Winner of the 2024 NARI Contractor of The Year, for an Entire House Remodel, ranging in cost from $500,000 to $750,000 for one of our recently completed projects. This award is a symbol that represents Gridley Company’s commitment to excellence, craftsmanship, creative design and client satisfaction. The project which we won this award for was truly an exciting project for our team of designers, builders and strategists to collaborate on.

Project Highlights

Front Porch Living: Our client loves the outdoors, and while at first their desires were a large covered area in the backyard for enjoying their morning coffee, we found our design opportunities here were limited. This discovery served as an opportunity in disguise to rethink the whole home’s layout and create this space in the front yard, thus significantly improving their curb appeal. The front porch featured beautiful Connecticut Blue Stone pavers, and painted v-groove ceiling with a lighting and a recessed heater for year-round enjoyment. Behind the french doors, in the space that was once the living room, is a private office for our client to better separate work and hobbies from home life. The french doors added a touch of elegance to the front elevation while also allowing for a light breeze into the space and beautiful natural lighting.

      Kitchen Transformation: To accommodate our client’s wish to have a better space for entertaining, we relocated the kitchen from the front of the house to the back of the house. This design decision set the foundation for the remainder of the project which lead to creating a beautiful foyer with tiled floors that made guests feel welcome and provided plenty of space for coats. Upon entering the home, our clients and their guests could easily navigate into the now, open kitchen-great room concept and feel welcome by the bright and warm tones and classic details. The countertops are a practical quartz product, emulating a beautiful marble pattern to compliment the classic carrara herringbone mosaic backsplash that offered a touch of texture to the space. With the roof over this space being a flat roof, we were unable to eliminate any of the exposed structural beams, and the existing ceiling had a slight slope to it that we were able to concealed with custom cabinetry moldings and trim details.

  Dining & Storage Solutions:  With the original dining space now converted to a family room, our client needed a flexible space for their art-piece dining table.  Our goal was to create a casual space, that allowed for the additional storage that our client needed such as a kitchen pantry, beautiful china cabinet for collectibles and seating.  We designed a built-in bench with beautiful bead board paneling as backdrop for a digital picture frame to showcase artwork.  In the bench seat, were were able to hide registers to provide improved heating and air to the space.  As an extension to the kitchen, we designed a built in wet bar featuring a beverage refrigerator, wine storage, and custom detailing to feel more like a piece of furniture.  The decorative legs on the bar doubled up as storage by pulling out to provide shelving for additional bottles and barware, a creative and beautiful solution that our installers implemented flawlessly.

Bathroom Expansion: The original primary bathroom was an incredibly small space, hardly fitting one person at a time. The space housed a toilet, with not enough knee space, a pedestal sink and a very small shower stall. Surely the space didn’t meet any of the current clearance requirements, and it significantly lacked storage. Our client’s wish was to have a bathroom that had storage, a large, barrier-free shower, and could fit both people at the same time, if they so desired. For consistency in design, we introduced the same deep blue color at both the vanity and tile on the shower accent wall. The shower was built without a curb or shower glass, allowing for a wet-room concept in a traditional setting. Louvered cabinet doors on the vanity added a unique style inspired by a beachy design that our clients love. The Rook Collection from Brizo became the jewelry of the space for the faucets, shower fixtures and even cabinet hardware. Our brilliant designers were able to expand the size of this bathroom by taking away unnecessary and wasted space from the hall bath, but still maintaining more than enough room for a vanity with storage, tub/shower combination and private toilet area comfortable for guests.
