The homeowners of this kitchen transformation loved their home but not the way it functioned. Their formal dining room sat empty while every meal, homework assignment, and family gathering happened in a cramped breakfast nook. The kitchen itself was so tight that only one person could cook at a time. Instead of simply updating the finishes, Gridley reimagined the layout around the family’s everyday life. By incorporating the unused dining room into the kitchen, we created a spacious island where the kids can do homework while dinner is being prepared, improved the home’s entry for better flow and natural light, and added custom storage that keeps everything within reach but off the countertops. The details make the space uniquely theirs—from a custom hexagon backsplash inspired by a meaningful family memory to rich charcoal cabinetry balanced with warm maple flooring that reflects the homeowners’ love of darker colors without making the home feel heavy. Behind the beauty is the advantage of Gridley’s design-build process, where structural challenges and complex planning were solved long before construction began, resulting in a kitchen that looks effortless because every detail was carefully considered.
